"He was called "the one in the middle," as he was one of three brothers who wandered Masaimara, Kenya, to challenge the old males so he could establish his own pride. I met him a few months after he had succeeded. He was standing over a field of wildebeest where two lionesses and several cubs were feasting."

The picture is the first in a series of "portraits" of lions I have observed in both Kenya and Zimbabwe.
