A line, a bird – and an almost complete absence of everything else.

In the harsh light of Zimbabwe, a yellow-billed hornbill sits alone on an arched branch, embraced by silence. The landscape is erased, left as an open canvas for the viewer's own associations. In this carefully composed shot, Bird becomes a contemplation of vulnerability, survival, and space.

The work is part of Square is Black – a series in which Løtvedt forces the digital format into an artistic framework. The square, perhaps the most demanding format in photography, is used here as a stage for purity and presence.
