A quiet breath in the heart of chaos.

Lamu House is captured in a single moment where time stands still – where light filters through tropical branches and dances on the water’s surface. Around this fragile stillness: an island in constant motion. Mopeds, donkeys, goats and people squeeze through the narrow alleys of Lamu – one of East Africa’s oldest settlements, shaped by Islamic heritage and warm passages to the sea.

But inside the courtyard of this traditional hotel, a visual contrast arises: a garden of concrete, water and shadows. The composition balances between documentary and dream – a study in light, calm and rhythm, captured in Baard’s signature style: poetic, but never embellished.
